Ranking system of Kumdo

Some weeks ago I received my certificate for the 5th geup.
There are 9 geup for younger students. Adult Kumdo players start with the 5th geup. Each geup is counted down until the 1st geup and the exam for the geup can be taken every two months. As my friends told me yesterday the exam itself is not so important. Instead of that it is more important that the master sees how frequent and hard a student trains during the period between the exams.
From the 1st geup the master level then starts with the 1st dan. The dan is counted up to the highest dan which is the 8th dan. To progress from the 1st dan to the 2nd students have to practice Kumdo at least 1 year. The exam to the 3rd dan can be taken after 2 years and so on. This means that to progress to the 8th dan it would take at least 30 years of Kumdo practicing. The exam for the 8th dan is held in Korea and also Japan twice a year and is known as one if the hardest martial art exams in the world. Out of 1000 participants the success ratio is only under 1%. Find out more about it here with the results list.
It has been already 2 months since my last exam. Today I will have my exam to progress to the 4th geup! Looking forward to it. 😄 Also the month of my first tournament is coming closer but the date for the tournament has not been announced yet. I will let you know through a post as soon as I will find out for sure. iiihyaaa
